Lithuania Work Visa - Eligibility and Requirements

Lithuania's work visa policies are aligned with the EU regulations, as the country is a member of the European Union. If you would like to work in Lithuania as a non-EU citizen, you will need to obtain:

A national long-term visa or a temporary residence permit;

A decision of the Employment Service that your work will correspond to the demands of the Lithuania labour market can be required. It is important to note that the National long-term visa allows you to enter and stay in the country for up to one year. If you need to work longer, you should apply for a temporary residence permit.

Eligibility

To be eligible to work in Lithuania, as previously stated,

  • non-EU/EEA nationals will need a work visa,
  • A confirmed job offer from a Lithuanian employer
  • Qualification and skills match the job requirements. In some cases, positions may need to be approved by the Lithuanian Employment Service if they are on the shortage occupation list.

Types of Work Visas

       The Temporary Residence Permit for Employment

This is the most common type for those intending to work in Lithuania for a longer period.

If your profession is included in the list of professions with a shortage of employees, or a decision of the Employment Service that your work will correspond to the demands of the Lithuanian labour market needs has been issued, you can apply for a temporary residence permit.

You must submit your documents to the embassy or consulate in your country of residence. If you are staying legally in Lithuania, you can apply for a temporary residence permit at the territorial divisions of the Migration department

      EU Blue Card

This is for highly qualified workers and offers better working conditions and benefits. To qualify for an EU Blue Card in Lithuania, you need to meet the following requirements to be considered a highly skilled worker:

      Usually a university degree or extensive professional experience – at least five years.

      A valid job offer with a salary of at least 1.5 times the average gross annual salary in Lithuania

General Application Requirements

  1. Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay and have been issued within the last ten years with at least two blank pages.
  2. Application Form: Complete and signed visa application form.
  3. Photographs: Passport-sized photos, adhering to visa photo specifications.
  4. Health Insurance: Proof of health insurance coverage for the duration of your stay.
  5. Proof of Accommodation: Document showing where you will reside in Lithuania.
  6. Financial Means: Evidence that you can financially support yourself during your stay.
  7. Criminal Record: A certificate of no criminal record from your home country.
  8. Medical Examination: In some cases, a medical examination report may be required.

Specific to Work Visa

  1. Job Offer/Contract: A formal job offer or employment contract from a Lithuanian employer.
  2. Work Permit: Depending on your job type and qualifications, your employer might need to obtain a work permit from the Lithuanian Employment Service before you apply for a visa.
  3. Qualifications and Experience: Documentation proving your qualifications and work experience relevant to the job you will be undertaking.

Application is made at the embassy or consulate in your country of residence. Be aware of fake agencies stating that they will bring you a visa. Applications are made in person and the candidate must attend an appointment.

The work visa costs €120. Although the visa application is made online, you are advised to pay the visa fee at the Lithuanian embassy or consulate. After paying the visa fee, you will be given a document that proves that you have paid the fee. You must add this document to your visa application.
